Times Education Awards

Operating Theatre’s work was shortlisted for the prestigious 2008 Times Higher Education Excellence and Innovation in Arts award.

The award, sponsored by the Arts Council, aims to recognise the collaborative and interdisciplinary work taking place in universities to promote the arts.

Operating Theatre was short-listed for its method of working, ie the workshop which includes the presentation of a play with the 'hot-seating’which follows. The workshop chosen for submission for the award featured the play White Lies about patient safety.

The submission was among six wide-ranging projects shortlisted. It was entered for the awards by Newcastle University Medical School in collaboration with Durham University, both of which use an annual performance of the play with accompanying workshop in their curricula.
