The Refusenik
by Carol Clewlow (Actors: 3)
Ida May is a 70 year old woman who dies 20 years prematurely (according to the official record) and who would still choose her clotted cream scones over 20 more years on earth with warfarin and unnecessary health anxieties. She is opinionated and entertainingly challenges the thinking that health is simply a matter of choice... and even if it is who is to say which choices are the right ones. The play is set in heaven, which turns out to be just as bureaucratic as your average form filling hospital admissions ward. Another UKPHA commission first performed at the 2005 conference.
