Turning Research into Drama.
When we were asked to create a piece that would help the public understand a groundbreaking area of research, it was an invitation we could not turn down. Neural Interfaces or NIs are being developed to treat conditions such as Parkinson’s and inoperable focal epilepsy. These devices are emerging as a potentially life-changing technology and their use carries with it many complex challenges
We spent almost two years working with the Institute of Neuroscience at Newcastle University to produce a series of works that reflected our encounters with patients and clinicians as well as world-leading researchers. The CANDO project was tasked with developing a neural implant that could quell debilitating seizures and a large team of experts spent months developing the device itself. We, in the meantime, went out into the community to see how people felt about the use of these devices, and from our findings, we created a number of works
Deep Mind is a 30-minute film that takes us to a near-future where NIs are no longer a research project, but a vital tool in the fight against illness.
